Your front door is usually one of the first things people notice about your home. It’s something you and your family may use every day, but it also plays an important role in setting the tone for visitors and creating that all-important first impression. Plus, if you’re thinking about selling, it can have a significant financial impact too – with some studies suggesting that a well-presented front door could add as much as 20% to a property’s value
As experts in all things doors, the team here at Doordeals are looking ahead to 2027, and using our internal and external data to predict the colours, styles, materials and accessories we think will be trending on front doors up and down the UK.
From heritage-inspired details and seasonal decor, to clever lighting and practical upgrades, these are the front door trends we expect will be making themselves known in 2027.

Front door colour trends
If there’s one front door colour we expect to see less of in 2027 and beyond, it’s anthracite grey. Once the go-to shade for modern homes, this shade is already showing signs of losing momentum, with searches for ‘anthracite front door’ down 50% and ‘anthracite grey front door’ down 60%. After 5+ years of dark grey doors dominating modern kerb appeal, the data suggests we could be ready for something a little more colourful.
That shift is reflected in the wider interior colour trends emerging for 2027. Sherwin-Williams has named Celery, a fresh, pale yellow-green, as its Colour of the Year, while Valspar has chosen Cottage Door, a mid-tone neutral blue, and Duluxhas selected Soulful Sage.
What’s interesting about these colours is that they feel like a current take on heritage shades. Greens and nature-inspired tones are generally associated with traditional homes and period properties, but these newer interpretations feel lighter, fresher and more contemporary. It’s the same balance we’re seeing across front-door styles more generally – taking the characterful elements and giving them a modern update.
We expect these colours to naturally drip feed into our front door colour choices throughout the coming year, but in softer heritage shades and more distinctive colours that complement the architecture of the home. Rather than the uniformity and safety of something like anthracite grey, 2027 could be the year homeowners become a little more adventurous with colour – choosing a front door colour option that adds character and a bit of unique personality.
Our prediction: expect the ultra-modern dark grey front door to make way for more individual, nature-inspired and heritage-influenced colours, giving traditional shades a fresh new lease of life.

Leaning into heritage charm
For a few years now, minimalism has been the buzzword on everyone's lips, and contemporary front doors have been amongst the top sellers with our customers. Think clean lines, sleek and simple finishes and neutral colours, modernising the curb appeal of many homes. And, while we are still seeing modern designs searched for, demand is down 34% for modern front doors, and, when it comes to interior inspiration, ‘modern decor ideas’ searches are down 20%, and ‘modern front door’ down by 3%.
Where we’re seeing real spikes in demand is the more vintage and heritage designs. In particular Victorian and 1930s inspired decor. The most recent data shows searches for ‘1930s home decor’, ‘victorian home decor’ and ‘victorian gothic home decor’ all growing by over 5,000% in the last month alone, ‘stained glass front door’ +20% and, more specifically to the time period, searches for ‘1930s front door’ spike by 40% and ‘victorian front door’ by 20%.
Our prediction: in 2027, we'll see more homeowners choosing front doors that feel connected to the character of their property – or deliberately adding a little heritage charm to a newer home.
Entrance experiences
Front doors are becoming much more of a layered extension of the home, rather than a functional entry point. We don’t expect this trend to go anywhere, with the data showing growing interest in the details that surround the door and help to create a more welcoming entrance. Aside from the door itself, the data suggests that the space immediately around the door may become increasingly important – visually, seasonally and functionally – going into next year.
Our latest search data shows particularly strong growth across these finishing touches. Searches for ‘outdoor front door lights’ have increased by 250%, while ‘outdoor front door mats’ are up 180% and searches for ‘front door canopy ideas’ have risen by 110%.
We're also seeing growing interest in the smaller details that help complete the entrance feel as a whole, with searches for wreaths and wreath hangers rising by between 50% and 160%, ‘front door curtains’ up 40% and ‘front door knockers’ up 30%.
These figures strongly suggest a surge in homeowners looking beyond the door itself and paying more attention to the whole entrance – from the lighting and shelter to seasonal decorations and smaller finishing touches.
Our prediction: in 2027, we’ll see more homeowners treating their front door as an extension of their interior style, creating a complete entrance experience rather than simply choosing a door and leaving it at that.

Materials for a personal touch
Alongside this shift towards more characterful colours, we're also seeing a growing appetite for personalisation. More and more homeowners are taking inspiration from others and having a go at transforming their own front doors. Searches for ‘front door paint ideas’ are up 30%, while TikTok videos around ‘front door colour ideas’ have collectively attracted more than 340,000 views in the last three months. It's a sign that people aren't just looking for the perfect front door – they're looking for ways to make it their own.
This could also have an impact on the materials homeowners choose. Timber front doors offer a natural canvas for colour and character, allowing homeowners to paint or refinish them as their tastes change. And with the wider trend moving towards heritage styles with a contemporary twist, the warmth and texture of wood lends itself particularly well to this more individual approach. You can read more on how to treat and finish oak doors specifically here, as oak is a common front door material choice.
Rather than choosing a door that dictates the entire look of the entrance, we're expecting to see more homeowners choosing quality materials that give them the freedom to personalise, often multiple times down the line.
Our prediction: in 2027, materials that allow homeowners to put their own stamp on their entrance will become increasingly desirable, with timber front doors offering the flexibility to evolve alongside changing colour and style trends.

Practical improvements are rising alongside aesthetics
Another interesting shift we’re seeing, is that homeowners seemingly aren't just thinking about how their entrance looks, but how well it works too.
We're seeing huge surges in interest for everything from draught excluders and canopies to sensor lighting. Searches for “best draught excluder for front door” have risen by 1,650%, while “front door light with sensor” is up 30%, suggesting that the front door is increasingly being considered as an important part of the home's comfort, security and everyday functionality.
What’s interesting is how closely this is sitting alongside the more decorative trends. Rather than treating style and practicality as separate functions, we’re seeing the two come together. This also reflects a broader move towards making more considered choices for the home: choosing a door that's built to last, then adding those personal touches that can evolve as your tastes do. A good quality front door provides the foundation that you should only need to restore, not replace, as the years go on – whereas details such as hardware, lighting, canopies, mats and seasonal decoration can be used to keep the overall look feeling fresh and current.
Our prediction: in 2027, the front door will become a more considered investment, with homeowners looking for quality, long-lasting doors that can be adapted and reworked, without replacing the whole door.
